Salcete Football Club held Raia Sporting Club to a goalless draw in GFA’s First Division League at Raia panchayat ground, on Tuesday.
Both teams displayed pedestrian football and did not show urgency, as a result play was confined to the midfield. There were a few attempts at the rival goal.
A lot was expected from Salcete but they failed to combine as a cohesive unit with their forwards and midfielders not exerting pressure on the rival citadel.
At the other hand, Raia who are yet to register their maiden win, were struggling to trouble the rival defence and occasionally went for the kill but that was not enough to trouble the Salcete citadel.
Salcete had scoring chances but their forwards were woefully out of touch.
The second session also continued in the same vein with both the teams adopting the safety approach and their moves were hampered inside the rival penalty box with their forwards not quick in utilising the opportunities.
Raia had a scoring chance to seal their fate but striker Clemente Xavier’s feeble shot went straight into the safe hands of Salcete keeper Presley Mascarenhas late in the second half.
Both teams tried their best but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
With this draw, Salcete Football Club collected seven points from six matches while Raia Sporting Club collected two points from five matches.
