PANJIM, NOV 2
Sanquelim Eagles, Dubai defeated Bicholim Boys, Dubai to record their second successive victory in the Panjim’s Cup cricket tournament organised by Panjim’s SC, Dubai recently at Zabeel Park cricket ground, Dubai.
Batting first Bicholim Boys scored 25 runs in four overs which Sanquelim Eagles chased very quickly in just 1.4 overs.
In the semis, Sanquelim beat Kakeez Brothers in a nail biting finish. Opting to bat first, Kakeez Brothers scored 32 runs in four overs. In reply, Sanquelim scored the required 33 runs in 3.5 overs. In the other semi-finals, Bicholim Boys defeated first timers Margao Union Future Boys with a big margin. Bicholim scored 45 runs in four overs while Future boys could only score 23 runs.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man-of-the-finals: Sher Khan of Sanquelim Eagles. Best batsman: Nurain of Bicholim Boys. Best bowler: Yunus of Sanquelim. Man-of-the-series: Sher Khan of Sanquelim. Sher won a package to ‘Umrah’ including visa, air ticket and accommodation in a hotel.
Earlier, president of Goan Welfare Society, Dubai, Rafik Shaikh spoke on the occasion and declared the tournament open in the presence of Sayed Yakub (president of SE), Sajid Shaikh (president of Sayeem Cargo), Feroz Shaikh (president of Kakeez Brothers), Bade Khan, Aslam Shah, Imaam Shaikh and others. A live performance by Goa’s top brass band was the highlight of the tournament.
