RAIA: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim defeated Cuncolim Union 2-1 in a GFA First Division football league match at Navelim ground, on Tuesday.
Cuncolim Unions’s striker James Fernandes could have scored in the 3rd minute itself but Cavelossim’s defender Pidroy Carvalho cleared the ball to safety.

Cavelossim counter-attacked in the 10th minute. Rishab Karapurkar sent a cross to Melson Fernandes whose shot was, however, saved by Cuncolim goalkeeper Earl Fernandes.
Thereafter, Cavelossim’s Ronaldo Coelho and Blayen Rodrigues missed to score in the 20th and 23rd minutes respectively.
A move initiated by Cavelossim’s Hemington Fernandes saw Rishab Karapurkar taking charge. The last named dribbled past a couple of Cuncolim Union defenders and shot from close range. The Cuncolim Union goalkeeper parried the ball which was tapped in by Ronaldo Coelho. That happened in the 30th minute.
In the post-interval session, Daulat Dessai and Ronaldo Coelho of Cavelossim missed chances to score in the 59th and 55th minutes respectively. Then, Velviano Fernandes missed to score in the 69th minute.
Cuncolim Union managed to score the equaliser in the 81st minute. Josslan Fernandes connected substitute Joho Khati’s flag-kick with a neat header which beat the Cavelossim goalkeeper.
Cavelossim raised the tempo and managed to score the match-winner in the 84th minute through Pidroy Carvalho’s power-packed shot. Later, Cavelossim’s Ryce Fernandes shot over.
In another match at Nagoa ground, Cortalim Villagers SSC routed YC Manora 4-1.
Aliston Fernandes, Preston Fenrandes(2), Cyril Dias scored for the winners. Sweden Barbosa reduced the margin for Manora.
