MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy made most of playing on their home ground as they thumped Dempo Sports Club 5-0 in AIFF’s U-19 I-League (Goa Zone) football match played at Sirsaim ground, here, Tuesday. Sesa FA led 1-0 at half time.
Olvin Cardozo gave Sesa an early lead in the first session while Rajiv Haldankar, Ganesh Thakur, Stephen Colaco and Glenn Martins scored in the second half.
The Dempo goal was breached early in the fourth minute as Glenn sent in a defence splitting through ball to striker Olvin, who finished neatly past Dempo keeper Shilton Fernandes.
As the match progressed, Olvin had four clear cut chances to score but failed in one-on-one situations as Shilton displayed an outstanding performance before the break. However, Shilton was helpless after play resumed as Sesa FA continued their fine form and netted another four goals.
Their second goal came in the 74th minute as Rajiv headed in off a flag-kick and two minutes later, Ganesh had a walk in the park as he not only dribbled past two rival defenders but also rounded off keeper Shilton to make it 3-0. Stephen scored another in the final two minutes and Glenn went on a daunting solo run from the center of the park to the danger zone, in injury time and hammered in the final blow to make it 5-0.
