The large crowd that turned up for the India-Australia ODI match at Nerhru stadium, Fatorda on Sunday, went into a shock as one of the sightscreens in North Stand, near the press enclosure, suddenly gave way. A young person had a miraculous escape.
The sightscreen collapsed and came down with a thud.
It was found that the screen collapsed due to the punctured wheels of the screen trolley. Sources informed that it was a GCA contractor who had installed the sightscreens.
SAG executive director, V M Prabhudessai and GCA officials alongwith SAG staff finally managed to get the sightscreen back in its place with the help of ground staff. Ropes were used to tie the iron railings on the sightscreen to the pillars on the press box.
