Siolim Sodiem promoted to 2nd Div

A brace from Anthony Fernandes secured promotion for Siolim Sodiem Sports and Cultural Association as they defeated Nagoa Sporting 3-0 in GFA’s Third Division Bardez Zonal finals at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday. Siolim led 1-0 at the interval.
Siolim manager, Paul Fernandes was delighted with the performance. “The boys stuck to the game plan. I wanted them to score the early goal and then keep possession of the ball,” remarked Paul.
Siolim managed to pin down their opponents in the midfield, using tight man-to-man marking to stop Nagoa’s exciting midfielders.
Nagoa started the brightest out of the two teams but after the first goal went in, they started to fade and were not given the opportunity to settle into their usual rhythm.
In the 28th minute, Siolim took the lead after Anthony Fernandes was put through on goal and critically steered the ball past the Nagoa custodian.
After the breather, the tempo reduced but both teams went in search of more goals.
In the 67th, as Nagoa pushed more and more forward for an equaliser, they were stopped in their tracks. The ball was played over the top for Anthony and he used his pace to get around the keeper and slot home his second.
Four minutes later, Rakesh Vaigangkar sent in a teasing ball across the face of the goal and teammate, Besil Fernandes accepted his invitation by tapping into an empty net.
CAC Cansaulim beat Young Humourists Club 3-1 in a Second Division match. Selwyn Sequeria, Clayton Dias, Ferrao Fernandes scored for CAC. Pankaj Siyan netted for Humourists.
