MAPUSA: Siolim Veterans had to wait for the penalty shootout before they got the better of Joe Cookies, Camurlim 5-4 margin to enter the quarter-finals of the Late Pascience and Assu Fernandes soccer tournament organized by Candolim Veterans at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Wednesday.
Both the teams played on equal footing in the first quarter of the match. As the match progressed, Menino Miranda’s rasping shot from outside the penalty box sailed just over the Siolim’s goal post.
On crossing over, Anthony Fernandes getting hold to a cross from Jeronimo Antao drilled a fierce shot which hit the horizontal bar.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams failed to score and were held to a goalless draw. In the penalty shootout, for Siolim, Sebastian, Vincent, Santos, Tomy and Anthony Fernandes were on target while for Joe Cookies Menino Miranda, Vincent Pinto, Sandeep Shanke and Francis Colaco scored.
