Sporting Clube, Lakecity FC play a goalless draw

MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa were held to a goalless draw against Lakecity FC in AIFF I-League Third Division at Jagran Lake City, Bhopal, on Thursday.

The game kicked off with Flaming Orange displaying their attacking intent early on. In the third minute, a golden opportunity presented itself as Lloyd Cardozo missed a crucial chance, failing to convert a precise pass from Lloyd Mascarenhas.

Moments later, Lakecity FC’s goalkeeper Hitendra Singh pulled off a stunning save to deny Rohan Rodrigues’ powerful header from Kunal’s well-placed corner.

Rohan Rodrigues continued to make an impact, delivering a precise cross to Lloyd Mascarenhas, who unfortunately couldn’t connect. Sporting Clube’s Joyson Gauncar earned a free-kick just outside the box, leading to Rohan Rodrigues’ attempt that was bravely blocked by Lakecity FC’s Althamash Sayed.

Lakecity FC managed to create a chance of their own in the 21st minute when Althamasjh struck a long-range effort that brushed off the post, leaving Sporting Clube’s defence breathing a sigh of relief. The first half ended with both teams displaying remarkable defensive skills, thwarting each other’s attacking moves effectively.

The second half witnessed Sporting Clube de Goa struggling to find breakthroughs, with Lloyd Mascarenhas and Joyson Gauncar unable to break through Lakecity FC’s defence. Coach Armando Colaco attempted to inject fresh attacking impetus by introducing Doyal Alves and Chandan Gawas into the game. However, despite their efforts, Sporting Clube was unable to unlock the resolute Lakecity FC defence.

 Lakecity FC’s goalkeeper continued to be a formidable presence, making crucial saves to deny Sporting’s attempts, including a weak effort from Rohan Rodrigues. The match concluded with both teams settling for a hard-fought draw.
