PANJIM: Trinidad and Tobago striker Anthony Wolfe scored a splendid hat-trick as Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Sesa Football Academy 5-0, in GFA’s Knock out tournament quarter-final football match, at Cuncolim ground, on Wednesday.
Sporting Clube led 2-0 at the interval.
The started the match on an agressive note and came close to scoring at either ends. However, Sporting Clube took the lead in the 36th minute through Wolfe.
The lanky striker managed to intercept a loose ball in the Sesa defence and made them pay by coolly slipping the ball past the goalkeeper for the opener.
Subsequently, less than 60 seconds later, a mix up in the Sesa defence once again allowed young striker Mauvin Borges to steal the ball and fire past the onrushing custodian to double The Flaming Oranje’s lead going into the breather.
Post resuption, the academy boys started in a renewed sense of purpose and tried hard to comeback into the match but their forwards were not allowed any room to operate by the rival defence.
Midway through the second session, Wolfe blazed a 35-yard screamer into the back of the net to increase the lead.
In the closing minutes, Wolfe rounded the Sesa custodian to tap in and complete his hat-trick while substitute Victorino Fernandes completed the rout with a neat placement to the far corner.
