MARGAO: A splendid hat-trick by Wayne Rodrigues helped St Anne’s, Ponda beat United Boys of Nessai 3-2 and emerge champions of all-Goa Fr Antonio memorial 3-a-side football tournament organized by Voice of Malbhat Association at Malbhat ground.
St Anne’s were richer by Rs 10,000 and a trophy while Nessai had to settle for Rs 8,000.
Wayne Rodrigues of St Anne’s and Fr Franky of Capuchin Fathers, Canacona were adjudged man-of-the-final and best player of the tournament respectively.
Former state players namely Francis Telles, Alisab Sadekar, Inacio Fernandes and Shridhar Neurlkar were felicitated by chief guest Fr Avinash Rebello, parish priest of Holy Spirit Church, Margao. He also distributed the prizes in the presence of Fr Nacimento Mascarenhas, Fr Joao Fernandes, and Fr Victor Sequeira.
Elvis Fernandes, president of Voice of Malbhat Association welcomed. In all, 72 teams participated in the two-day tournament.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Fr Agnelo Rodrigues in the presence of Arthem D’Silva and Bossuet D’Silva.
