MAJORDA: St Anthony SC, Assolda defeated Navelim Villagers Union by 6-5 via the tie-breaker and entered the quarter-finals of Fr Basilio memorial inter-village football tournament , at Musson ground, Majorda on Monday .
St Anthony SC started the match brightly but couldn’t get past the rival defence. They had to wait till the final quarter to score which they managed to net through Agnes Vaz.
Navelim SC trailed by a goal at the break. Crossing over Navelim put up a strong display with some attacking football which pinned the rivals in their own territory.
After much probing they managed to level terms through Anil Shirodkar late into the second half.
With scores level, both teams tried to find the match-winner but couldn’t convert their chances.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.
In the penalty shoot out, Assolda scored through Mario Fernandes, Succor Fernandes, Agnes Vaz. Jovito Carvalho and Apolono Oliveira. And for Navelim the scorers were Julini Costa, Joseph Gomes, Covan Louernce and Suraj Naik.
