MARGAO: St Jude’s got the better of Manovikas EMS 2-1 in a closely fought first match of round 3 in the U-10 Futsal tournament organised by Youth Futsal Academy, at Chowgule Futsal court, on Saturday.
Shane Ferrao put St Jude’s into the lead before Loyd Dcosta levelled scores for Manvikas. The brothers Slane Ferrao and Shane Ferrao combined brilliantly in the final minute as the latter put finishing touches to a brilliant move to give St Jude’s a well deserved win.
In another interesting encounter, Loyola HS margao came back from two goals down to get the better of fighting young boys of YFA Warriors by 7-5.
Aarav Coutinho scored the first after being set up by Samuel D’souza and then made it 2-0 with a fantastic freekick.
Later, Sohan Fernandes pulled one back for Loyola before captain Abner Noronha equalised for the Margao School.
Abner put Loyola into the lead soon after but Aarav leveled from the spot after Samuel was brought down inside the area by Abner. Jonathan Ferrao put Loyola into the lead after tapping in a rebound but Aarav once again pulled his team back into the match to level scores.
There after two quick goals by Sohan Fernandes and Abner Noronha who completed his hat trick took the game away from YFA Warriors. Samuel D’souza made sure Loyola were made to sweat till the end with timely finish but an own goal all but sealed victory for Loyola HS. Abner Noronha was awarded the man-of-the-match trophy.
Match 14 was an easy contest for Perpetual Succour Convent HS as a hatrick by man-of-the-match Mohammed Sakib Shaikh out did the hard work put in by Youth Futsal Academy captain Vardhaan Pathania who defended bravely.
In the final match of the day, The Kings School edged past Marina English HS Verna by 3-2.
Ethan D’silva gave Kings the lead before a spirited Marina scored two goals through the shoes of Jodrich Abranches and Melchior Rebello put Marina ahead.
With three minutes to go Ethan equalised for Kings before Aryaman Jain broke Marina hearts at full time.
