FATORDA: St Rock’s High School, Velim got the better of Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Borda 4-2 via tie-breaker and entered the quarter-finals in the U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament, held at the Astro turf ground, Fatorda, on Friday.
Asfin Pinto took the first shot at the Multipurpose goal in the sixth minute but was denied by the post and then saw his header narrowly miss the target in the next minute.
This could have been the best scoring chance for Kholi Ganesh of Multipurpose but Velim keeper Jeriton Simoes denied with a smart save.
Asfin than floated a ball to Rahul M but the latter’s move was tackled by Kumar Rahul.
Alroy Fernandes netted the first goal of the match in the 36th minute but the joy was short-lived as within ten minutes Regal Figuerido equalised for Govt Multipurpose.
In the tie-breaker, St Rock’s netted through Rahul Muthoswamy, Jeriton Simoes and Brandon Simoes while only Koli Ganesh scored for the losers.
In another match, Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna defeated Mae Dos Pobres HS, Nuvem 2-0.
Meuton Fernandes and Flan Gomes scored a goal each for the winners.
In the last game of the day, Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Ariel defeated Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim 4-0. Crony Costa and Valancio D’costa scored a brace each for the winners.
