PANJIM: Suraj Lotlikar was elected unopposed as the president of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) after the withdrawal of all opposition candidates on Monday.
Shamba Molu Naik Desai was elected unopposed as the vice-president.
A total of seven candidates were vying for the president’s post out of which three were disqualified and three withdrew. Dr Sagar Salgaokar, Vilas Rama Desai and Sushant Naik were disqualified as per new rules framed by Lodha Committee’s recommendations while Anant Naik, Shamba Molu Naik Desai and Daya Pagi withdrew from the president’s post.
GCA had adopted the Lodha panel recommended reforms in full by resolving a few queries that were brought up by the panel at its General Body Meeting in February this year.
Suraj, who was acting president of GCA, while speaking to Herald said, “I am confident of my panel getting elected with full majority and will accept the wishes and congratulation only on September 22.”
It may be recalled that Suraj was appointed GCA acting president in April 2017 as president Chetan Desai had resigned to adhere the Lodha Committee recommendations.
Of the five fighting for the vice-president’s post two (Anant Naik and Tulshidas Shetye) withdrew while two (Meghnath Shirodkar and Manohar Naik)were disqualified.
Meanwhile the election for the remaining four posts namely secretary, treasurer, joint secretary and one member will be held on September 22.
All four posts0 will be a one to one battle with Vipul Phadke and Hemant Angle fighting for the secretary’s post while Prashant B Phatarpekar and Paresh Govind Phadte for treasurer post.
Sudesh Prabhudesai and Sayed Abdul Majid will fight for Jt Secretary while Rohan Gauns Desai and Mohan Chodankar as member.
