GOA VELHA: United Club of Nerul scored an easy 4-1 victory over Sinquerim Sports Club to move into the quarter-finals of the 13th London Trophy 2019 organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Sunday.
In a fast paced encounter, United Club Nerul missed to surge ahead in the fourth minute but Anson D’Souza saw his effort sail over the Sinquerim bar.
At the other end, Nikhil Sakalkar of Sinquerim Sports Club after dribbling past a couple of Nerul defenders shot wide from close range in the 10th minute.
Nerul’s Russel Fernandes missed a glorious chance when his powerful strike from inside the box hit the horizontal bar and rebounded into play in the 16th minute.
Tushar Narvekar put Sinquerim Sports Club ahead in the 21st minute after his effort beat Russel Fernandes in the Nerul goal. Nerul increased the pace of the match and nearly equalised in the 30th minute but Suraj Kaunthankar’s effort struck the bar.
However, in the very next minute Lincoln Gonsalves scored the equaliser as he placed the ball past Devraj Tari in the Sinquerim goal. Both the teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Anson D’Souza put Nerul ahead in the 39th minute to make it 2-1. Dwayne Britto made it 3-1 through a solo-effort in the 53rd minute.
Anson D’Souza scored his brace and made it 4-1 for Nerul as he easily beat Sinquerim keeper Devraj Tari.
