MAPUSA: Vasco Sports Club registered a narrow 1-0 win over Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Professional league, at Duler stadium, here, on Friday.
With a win, Vasco SC has six points while Sesa FA has just one point both after their third league match.
The Port Towners inspite of their skipper Joaquim Abranches and Suraj Mondal seated on the bench, the medios Francis Fernandes, U-20 Desmon Gama had two good attempts at the rival goal but Francis’ scorching 25-yard kissed the upright while Desmond’s strike from inside the box was blocked at the far post by the Sesa keeper Roanal Gaunkar.
The Sesa lads too had their chances early in the match when skipper Myran Pereira who had moved upfront collected a square pass from Sandeep S and drilled a stiff grounder from outside the penalty box but Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa brought an excellent full stretched diving save.
Vasco coach Micky Fernandes made two changes in the 54th minute by bringing Joaquim Abranches and Sheldon Pereira from the bench while a minute later Sesa’s in charge Charles Dias also brought in Kunal Salgaokar and Stephen Colaco.
The Port Towners were lucky not to concede a penalty in the 75th minute when Kuldeep Kumar was seen in the act of bringing down Myron Borges inside the penalty box with the Sesa players and officials in the bench appealing strongly for a penalty which could not convince referee Pandurang Korgaonkar.
With plenty of action in progress, Port Towners shot into the lead in the 86th minute when Anil Gaonkar sent a floater just outside the 6-yard box to find Joaquim Abranches connect the ball into the goal and in the process collided with Sesa keeper Roanal Gauncar.
