Verna prevail over Wilred

MARGAO: Verna Sports Club prevailed over Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim 4-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the semi-finals of All-Goa Snow’s Trophy inter- village football tournament organised by Snow’s Football Academy, Raia at panchayat ground, Raia, uesday. The teams were locked goalless at full time.

Verna enjoyed the lion share of exchanges and nearly broke the deadlock midway in the first session but Wilred goalkeeper Johnson Bhagat came to his side’s rescue, blocking striker Basil’s try.

Wilred took time to settle down but once they struck  rhythm they called the shots.

Verna also had an opportunity but goalkeeper Bhagat fisted away Basil Rego’s essay.

Midway, Wilred went all out and nearly found success but Jameson Noronha wasted a gilt-edged chance.

In the tie-breaker, Basil Rego, Vinson Fernandes and Stanley Pereira were on target for Verna while Joaquim Cardozo and Agnelo Martins converted for Wilred.
