MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club breezed past Carmona Sports Club 2-1 to enter the quarter-finals of all-Goa Varca Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, Wednesday.
Wilred Leisure led 2-0 at the breather.
The start was startling as Wilred Leisure took off perfectly. They surged ahead in the 12th minute when James Fernandes slotted past off well measured cross from midfielder Jameson Noronha.
With the lead, Wilred Leisure intensified the attacks and kept their opponents on the back foot. Melvin Fernandes doubled the lead in the 26th minute when he bulge the net off well laid through pass from Jameson.
Post resumption, Wilred Leisure continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges but their forwards could not add to their tally due to inept shooting by their forwards.
A lot was expected from Carmona after change over but they subdued and looked disjointed.
Desperate Carmona went all out in the dying minutes of the game and striker Charles Rodrigues scored the consolation goal. Jameson, who played a stellar role for his team was adjudged man-of-the-match.
