MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club inscribed their name on the glittering all- Goa 37th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament, organized by Navelim Sporting Club with 3-1 victory over CRC, Chinchinim at Rosary ground, Navelim, Sunday.
The teams were tied 1-1 draw at half time.
Both the teams adopted aggressive approach in the opening session and kept the Sunday crowd on their toes. Wilred Leisure Sports Club slowly took control over the match and came out with purpose.
Wilred Leisure broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when winger Tony Dias beat the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish. However, their joy was short-lived and four minutes later Cletus Pereira cancelled the lead for Chinchinim with snap shot.
Stunned by the equalizer, Wilred Leisure went into attacking mode but Chinchinim defenders were up to the challenge.
Wilred Leisure, who created a couple of opportunities in the first half looked far better after change of ends, as they tried to keep possessions and control the midfield. They took control of the game and pressed for more goals.
Sertorio Monteiro made it 2-1 in the 35th minute when he beat his markers and punished the rival goalkeeper with deft shot. Milagres Fernandes drove the last nail into rival coffin in the dying minute of the game.
Wilred Leisure were richer by Rs 40,000 while Chinchinim had to settle for Rs 30,000.
Luizinho Faleiro, General Secretary AICC and former chief minister was felicitated on the occasion by Fr Jose Roque Gonsalves, vicar of Our lady of Rosary Church, Navelim.
Nabam Tuki, Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Labour Minister Avertano Furtado, Fr Jose Roque Gonsalves, Luizinho Faleiro and Frank Fernandes, sarpanch of VP Navelim. The tournament was organized in memory of Late Joaquim Faleiro.
