PANJIM: The National Windsurfing Championship got started, on Sunday morning, at Hawai Beach, Dona Paula.
The morning was marred by low winds and nearly glassy sea conditions and sailing had to be postponed to the afternoon session. The Race 1 started in winds of about 6 knots and sailors had to work hard and pump to generate speeds. Ten minutes in the race the wind shifted by about 45 degrees and helped the stragglers to gain speed in the beat.
In Race 2, the winds picked up but shifted 180 degrees and the course had to be relayed to cater to this shift. In Race 3, the winds steadied and picked up slightly resulting and the race could be completed well before last light.
Racing is done as per the low point scoring system at the end of three races the positions are as under follows.
RSX (men): 1st Satheppa K (6 points), 2nd Chennah D P (6 points), 3rd Jerome Kumar (8 points). Techno: 1st Dayne Coelho (4 points), 2nd Raunak Pai (5 points), 3rd Russel Lobo (9 points).
Race board (women): 1st Katya Coelho (3 points), 2nd Rhea Fernandes (7 points), 3rd Mahaswiri M (8 points). Race board (youth men): 1st Myron Gomes (5 points), 2nd Chadwick D’Mello (7 points), 3rd David Estibeilo (8 points). Race board (men): 1st Murugan R (4 points), 2nd Kore Manoj Kumar (8 points), 3rd Canute D’Mello (8 points).
