AGENCIES, PUNE: Goa’s Xavier D’Souza and Jerry D’Mello won silver and bronze respectively in swimming on day 5 of the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games, at Balewadi Sports complex Pune-Maharashtra, on Monday.
In the U-21Boys 50 meters freestyle, Xavier came second with a timing of 24:17 while Jerry D’mello shared the third place with Sahil Pawar from Maharashtra with a time of 24:53.
In the U-17 Boys 50 meters breaststroke, Goa’s Sagar Patil finished in 8th position with a timing of 33:17.
In the U-21 Girls 50 meters freestyle, Goa’s Suman Patil finished fifth with a timing of 29:09 and still hopeful of a podium finish in her favourite 100 Butterfly on Tuesday.
In boxing, Goa’s medal hopes are still alive and ticking with young and energetic Goan boxers Chotu Kumar Singh and Suman Yadav putting up brave fights to win their respective round bouts in U-17 Boys/Girls categories.
Deepak Kumar Choudhary and Jessica Kara lost their respective bouts in the same age category.
