The present GFA elections are being held under the new constitution and as such, the question of anyone being disqualified does not arise, stated Nelson D’Cunha, president of Young Boys of Tonca (YBT) in a press note on Monday.
Nelson, pointed out that Dionisio Sardinha, who is contesting as a member from Salcete Zone, was talking about the disqualification of Shrinivas V Dempo and Jaju Fernandes and that neither the GFA executive committee nor the general body had disqualified anybody from contesting. Actually, Dionisio filed a disqualification petition only against Jaju and nobody else as is being claimed by Nelson.
Nelson expressed surprise that the “Duler Stadium has been built in a record time of just one day and that the news of Manchester United kit, Kingfisher, Duler floodlights, Australian Youth Development were making news only now. We are breaking records after records,” Nelson added.
Nelson explained that “Dempo is a great personality, a gem of a person with dignity, respect, commitment, always willing to help others and that everyone in Panjim knows Dempo through his deeds.”
“The Dempo family has been running football club for generations and that Shrinivas was the right choice to be the president of GFA. We will definitely enable Dempo to walk through these election with ease,” Nelson remarked.
Meanwhile, Tonito Botelho, GFA spokesman when asked about the disqualification petition filed by Dionisio against Jaju only, stated that he had got in touch with Returning Officer, Valmiki Menezes. Tonito clarified that Valmiki will perform the duties of the Returning Officer as provided for, and will not speak to the media.
