PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has implemented ‘projects on environmental education’ from the current academic year that will carry 25 marks each for Class XI and Class XII students. The project will cover all three streams of Science, Commerce and Arts.
The circular issued this week stated that exemplar projects suggested by NCERT need to be followed, however, it is left to the teachers to select the projects and the methodology.
“Teachers may select a topic for students wherein students may be encouraged to gather real time data through web searches or interviews of concerned stakeholders. There are provisions especially for science stream to undertake field environmental significant areas. It is suggested that other streams also be encouraged to undertake such visits. While the students are on field visits, teachers may suggest a small project to be undertaken and the same can be considered for evaluation,” the circular by Board Secretary Shivkumar Jangam states.
The Board has also suggested that the field trip may be planned based on themes given in the exemplar projects and these options may be followed from the next academic year. “However, if the schools have not initiated the projects they may adopt these guidelines across all streams this year,” it further states.
The Centre for Environment Education has been roped in to understand the field realities for Class XI teachers. The students, an official said, will benefit as separate grades for the two classes will be recorded in the Board certificate.
