BICHOLIM: The days of wild revelry and hooliganism at the Chorla Ghat in Keri-Sattari could well be numbered, with Bicholim Deputy Collector Narayan Gad issuing guidelines to various authorities to take strict action to curb nuisance in the area.
The growing number of tourists visiting Chorla Ghat to enjoy the scenic beauty and to bathe at several waterfalls has also led to various problems, including eve-teasing, dumping of garbage and blocking of the road.
Following a number of complaints regarding the nuisance caused by hooligans, the deputy collector convened a special meeting in the office on Saturday, which was attended by officials of several departments, including forest official Paresh Parob, DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai, Valpai PI Ramesh Gaonkar, Mamlatdar Kshama Arondekar, transport official Sanjay Parwadkar and excise official Hanumatrao Desai, as well as the Keri Sarpanch.
The deputy collector instructed the forest department to display signboards for the tourists so that they do not litter in the area.
It was also decided to deploy police officials at about 16 places frequented by people. They were also instructed to fine those who do not follow norms. The RTO were asked to fine those parking their vehicles in a haphazard manner. The excise department was asked to inspect cars to keep control transportation of liquor.
