MAPUSA: One under trial accused Bala Naik (30) lodged at Colvale Central Jail for an alleged rape case was declared brought dead by doctor on duty at North Goa District Hospital, on Thursday around 8 pm, said Colvale police.
In this connection, the Colvale Police have registered a case of an unnatural death since Naik was a diabetic patient. The body was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim morgue for preservation.

The police have also informed the Deputy Collector about the incident as per the procedure as the deceased was in custody of the jail. Further investigation is likely to be carried out under the Collector.
According to the sources, on Wednesday, the deceased was admitted at North Goa District Hospital after he complained of feeling uneasy. However, he was sent back to jail after medication. He was a diabetic patient.
On Thursday, he was found unconscious in his cell. The jail staff after noticing him immediately shifted the accused to North Goa District Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
