The Goa Police Crime Branch has arrested two more accused in connection with the Porvorim shooting case, taking the total number of arrests in the case to six.
The latest arrests were made in Chennai by a team of the Goa Police Crime Branch. The two accused were apprehended within the jurisdiction of Light House Police Station in Chennai and have been identified as Arputharaj alias Anna, 49, and Pavan Saur, 19.
According to police, Arputharaj, a resident of the area near Digha Railway Station in Mumbai, is the alleged second shooter in the case, besides Babu Ali, who was arrested two days ago near the Nepal border. Police said Pavan Saur was also actively involved in the alleged conspiracy.
The arrests are linked to Porvorim Police Station Case No. 66/2026, registered following the August 28 firing at Hotel Neo Majestic. The shooting had targeted Srinivas Nayak, director of Neo Majestic Casino, who escaped unhurt in the incident.
Earlier, the Crime Branch had arrested three other suspects in connection with the case. Qazu Sheikh, 28, was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh with the assistance of Jaunpur Police, while Israr Ali, 25, and Suraj, 36, were arrested in Mumbai.
With the latest arrests, six accused have now been taken into custody in the case. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the precise roles of those arrested, ascertain the motive behind the shooting and identify any other persons linked to the conspiracy.
