PANJIM: The North District Collector on Sunday issued a fresh order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code banning large gatherings including at several public and commercial establishments. However, the prohibition does not include religious places and malls.
The four-page order by Collector R Menaka has also barred movement of all individuals for all non-essential activities between 9pm to 5am.

All shops/establishments except essentials from 9 pm to 5 am; gymnasiums, sports complexes, auditoriums/community halls, assembly halls and similar places; bars, schools-colleges-educational/training/coaching institutions will continue to remain non-functional.
In addition to these, cinema halls/theatres, swimming pools, social/political/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions and other large congregations; casinos, river cruises, multiplexes, consumption of liquor in public places, entertainment parks, spa/massage parlours as well as sale and consumption of pan, gutkha and tobacco in public places are also banned.
The Collector has warned the violators of facing action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, while the order comes into force from Monday. The ban, Collector explained, is due to the health emergency posed by COVID-19.
