MARGAO: Discrepancies in the Municipal accounts dominated the meeting of the Cuncolim Municipal Council with the City Fathers asking the Chief Officer to take steps to transfer the Rs 40 lakh amount in the fixed deposits in the Municipal cash book without delay.
The Chief Officer was also asked to investigate whether the Municipality had in the past made any fixed deposits in any bank and show it in the cash book if the amount does not reflect in the municipal accounts.
Taking cognisance of the letter received from the Director of Municipal Administration threatening to stop grants to the civic body if the Municipality fails to submit a detailed report on the accounts, the meeting has asked the Chief Officer to immediately despatch all details to the DMA and to issue memo to the erring staff if they don’t cooperate on the issue.
The Council meeting also decided to revise the house tax by 10 per cent. CMC Chairperson Devendra Desai said it was also decided to ascertain the number of illegal structures in the town to levy tax for the purpose of house tax to generate revenue.
As far as the banks and financial institutions operating in the town are concerned, the meeting resolved to ask them to pay one month’s rent to the Civic body as per rules.
The CMC chairperson said the meeting resolved to make the Municipal building disabled friendly by opening a counter on the ground floor of the building to effect inward entries. “For the disabled, they can use the counter for both inward and outward work”, he added.
The meeting also decided to ascertain the number of rooms constructed and given on rent around the Cuncolim Industrial estate. “The exercise will be carried out in the jurisdiction of the Civic body to find out the number of illegal rooms let on rent”, he added.
