SANGUEM: Over 200 two and four-wheeler drivers who visited the scenic Kurdi village were fined by the police on Sunday, at the instructions of Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajay Gaude for violating the lockdown conditions including Section 144.
After getting information that a large number of people had gathered there, Gaude, along with a team of policemen rushed to the spot.

Gaude added that majority of the people had also violated the rule of wearing masks in public.
Given that many of the public involved were youngsters, Gaude advised the parents to verify and monitor the movement of their children. “Who would be blamed if any unwanted happening takes place in this remote village? Gaude mentioned.
Seeing the grim condition in the village, Gaude immediately convened a meeting of the officials concerned and directed the authorities to block all accesses leading to Kurdi village till further notice by putting barricades across the roads and also directed the officials to install sign boards wherever necessary.
It is pertinent to note here that a large number of people from all over Goa rush to Kurdi in April and May to experience the cool surroundings and the backwaters of Selaulim reservoir.
It is only in the last week of April that the water in the Selaulim Dam recedes to the lowest point making the old Kurdi village emerge out of water which otherwise remains underwater for most part of the year.
