Stage is set for All India Konkani Parishad’s 19th All India Konkani Literacy Conference said to be one of the biggest platforms for Konkani writers to showcase their talents.
Announcing the literary event at a press briefing on Wednesday, AIKP Working President Gokuldas Prabhu said the event would be held on February 7 and 8 at Kundapur in Karnataka.
Prabhu informed around 300 delegates from Goa and a total of close to 2,000 delegates are expected to attend the two-day literary conference, which would be inaugurated by noted writer Ravindra Kelekar.
He said the event would see two poets’ meet, five seminars, an interactive overview of Konkani literature and a programme for literary expression of children.
‘Konkani writers, poets and intellectuals from Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and
Maharashtra would participate in the conference where stage plays, folk dances and other cultural programmes will be staged,’ Prabhu mentioned. He said noted Konkani poet Ramesh Veluskar would preside over the inaugural session. Noted writers like Philomena Sanfrancisco, Eric Soares Borkar, Ramesh Ghadi and Paul Moraes are participating in the event.
Prabhu said the inaugural function would be attended by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa as chief guest and Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat would attend the valedictory function on the second day.
AIKP has so far held 26 biennial sessions and 18 national Konkani literary conferences in various parts of the country. The forthcoming conference is the third one to be organized in Karnataka.
