CANACONA: Discontentment is brewing among government teachers in Canacona taluka, after the State government recently transferred about 60 teachers within the taluka.
According to reliable sources, the government issued transfers of over 60 teachers in three different batches of Canacona government schools, which includes five high schools.
While a few teachers accepted the posting at their new schools, many others approached the local MLA and threatened to approach unions to seek relief from the transfers, after claiming the move as ‘unjust.’
The transfers, issued last week, were on the reported criteria of having worked for over five years at one school, including the ones who had requested for new postings.
Some aggrieved teachers, however, alleged that many transfers were issued without any reason and were allegedly issued without following any criteria, as many teachers who have completed decades at one school were left untouched.
Following widespread anger, the Canacona ADEI, acting on instructions from the higher-ups, reportedly called a few teachers who had already joined the new schools and requested them to return to their original schools.
Many aggrieved government teachers have reportedly complained to the All Goa Government Teachers Union, and the transfers were discussed at a meeting in Ponda on Sunday.
It may be recalled that Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Tawadkar was keen to improve the standard of education in the taluka, in a bid to stop the migration of parents along with their children to pursue better education facilities in other cities of the State.
Tawadkar had even chaired several meetings during the last academic year in association with the Education Department and other educationists, to bring about the required necessary changes in schools across the taluka.
