PANJIM: Panjim Hotel and Traders Association (PHATA) on Thursday said it was unhappy with the “drama enacted by CCP officials in connivance with some seasoned councillors in conducting raids on street vendors and the so-called illegal handcarts just to show the general public and PHATA that action had been initiated.”
“The CCP was directed by Urban Development Minister to stop all illegal food stalls serving cooked food which do not comply with hotel guidelines, immediately after the meeting ended. Just to satisfy the minister and PHATA, raids were conducted on street vendors who did not satisfy the dalals of CCP,” said PHATA General Secretary Ricardo Rebello.
He said, “It appears that the newly appointed CCP Commissioner is being hoodwinked by the so-called mission to clear up handcarts serving food by these dalals.”
He further said that traders and hoteliers will not pay any renewal fees for current year till action is taken on handcarts serving food and all stalls are removed and adhere to the licensing policy.
“PHATA has also asked the details of garbage fees levied by CCP on residences and traders which was endorsed by the Minister and the Commissioner assured to give complete tax structure on levy of garbage fee besides other licence fees and tax collection by the Corporation.” he added.
