Messy files in Co-op Dept will be digitalised in 2 months: Min

Co-operation Minister Subhash Shirodkar also said that more attention will be given to the Credit societies. The number of dairy societies also needs to be increased, he added.

MARGAO: Shocked with the number of files piled up in the offices of the Co-operation Department and the lack of maintenance of proper records, Co-operation Minister Subhash Shirodkar said that the records of all the sub-offices of the department will be digitalised by January 2023. He also informed reporters that the sub-office of Margao will be shifted to the Water Resources Department complex at Gogol, Margao.

The Minister on Wednesday morning paid a surprise visit to the Margao sub-office of the Co-operation Department and instructed the staff to keep a separate register as per categories, besides maintaining separate records of the self-help groups. Speaking to reporters after the visit, Shirodkar said, “It was very shocking to witness files being piled up in the office at Margao. There is an urgent need to streamline the management over here, and they need more space,” he said.  He said that there is presently no proper maintenance of the files and registers. Separate registers are required as per the categories of the societies, which include housing and general societies.   Shirodkar was upset that very few societies are registered under the fisheries category.

“The number of societies under the fisheries category needs to be increased. There is a provision of Rs one lakh crore from the Centre only for fisheries, and till today, Goa has not taken any benefit of the said funds,” said Shirodkar.

The Minister added that only one marketing society has been registered with the Cooperation Department, despite Salcete and Mormogao taluka being commercial centres.  Shirodkar also said that more attention will be given to the Credit societies. The number of dairy societies also needs to be increased, he added.
