In a shocking incident, a 43-year-old man allegedly murdered his father at their residence in Podwal-Corjuem in Aldona on Wednesday night.
According to Mapusa police, the incident took place when the accused, Mario Borges, picked up a quarrel with his father, Francis (76).
Following his return from the Gulf many years ago, Mario was residing with his father and incidentally, Francis’ wife had expired barely two months ago.
Police learnt that Mario and Francis would frequently quarrel on petty issues.
On Wednesday at around 9 pm, they started a quarrel and in a fit of anger, Mario allegedly struck his father repeatedly with a glass bottle on the head.
The accused then lifted a chair and hit it on the head of his father, killing him on the spot.
Panic-stricken neighbours alerted a 108 ambulance, but the ambulance attendants confirmed that Francis was dead and notified the police.
Acting on the information, Mapusa Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar and a team rushed to Corjuem and arrested the accused.
