PANJIM: Many government-aided school teachers and non-teaching staff have expressed their apprehensions over the banks issuing notices to them to repay House Building Advance (HBA) loans of last four months even as Education Department said that the HBA will be credited in banks by this week-end.
Many teachers and non-teaching staff of the government-aided schools have availed the HBA loan from the Education Department over the years and every month installments are paid to the respective banks in time.
The Education Department deducts the installments before releasing the salary to the respective schools, but for the last four months i.e from April to July this year the deducted amount was not deposited in the bank by the department.
The aggrieved teachers brought it the notice of the then director of education Dilip Bhagat, who assured them that the deducted amount would be credited in the banks. Even few bank managers visited the department but in vain.
One of the teachers, Anthony D’Lima said that he and many others received notices from the banks of non-payment of EMI with the warning of putting their account into Non Performing Assets (NPA). He feared that the bank might even attach his flat in future for no fault of his.
When contacted, Deputy Director of Education (Academic Section) Dr Shambhu Ghadi said that the payments have been processed and it will be cleared by this week. He however could not give the reasons for the delay stating that he has been recently posted in the Academic Section, which maintains the records.
