MARGAO: On the World Tribal Day, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that the works pertaining to Tribal Research Centre at Sanguem and Tribal Museum, Farmagudi, besides Tribal Bhawan at Porvorim will be initiated very soon and all the projects will be completed by the next six months of time.
Addressing the gathering at Ravindra Bhavan, here, Chief Minister further stated that pending proposals with regard to Forest Right Act will be resolved at the earliest.
He said that the works pertaining to the Tribal Research Centre at Sanguem will commence within the next few days. Tribal Minister Govind Gaude has taken a kin interest to complete the project.
“The Tribal Research Centre is a need of an hour in order to study the issues related to tribal communities in the State. The Tribal Culture of Goa should be known to the next generation and hence documentation of all the related issues, including culture and other aspects of the community is required,” he stated.
The Chief Minister said that this Tribal Research Centre will be inaugurated within the next two or three months.
Stressing on the preservation, he said, “Tribal Museum will be set up at Farmagudi, on the land that belongs to Tourism Department. We have already had talks with the department.”
Further, the Chief Minister announced that in order to bring all the tribal related departments and other activities to one place, a Tribal Bhavan will be set up at Porvorim and the foundation stone will be laid down on August 13.
Sawant said the 50 per cent of proposals with regard to Forest Right Act has been initiated while pending cases will be resolved very soon.
“Tribal widows deserved additional pensions and hence volunteers should see to it that they get the benefit of schemes, besides, Dayanand Social Security Scheme,” he stated.
Minister Tribal Welfare Gaude reiterating that the education field is the prime focus of the government said that the Tribal Welfare Department is working to take the weaker section of society forward.
“Unity is important to get anything done,” he added. Chairmen of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Commission Ramesh Tawadkar and others also spoke.
Ratnakar Velip, Satish Korgaonkar, Anil Velekkar and Sakaram Korgaonkar were felicitated by the Chief Minister and Tribal Minister for their contribution towards the society during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
