Senior BJP leader Nilesh Cabral has said that the decision on whether he will contest the upcoming election rests with the party, stressing that individual leaders cannot decide their own candidature.
Asked why he had decided to contest, Cabral repeatedly said, “Party has decided,” adding that candidates cannot take a ticket individually and that the party considers several factors before making such decisions.

Cabral, who said he is part of the BJP’s core committee, also dismissed questions about whether there was opposition to his candidature within the party.
He said the elections are still several months away and there is sufficient time before the final decisions are made.
Responding to questions about his political future and the possibility of stepping down, Cabral remained guarded, saying the party would take the appropriate decision.
