Security preparations have been intensified around Delhi’s Red Fort ahead of Independence Day, with around 20,000 personnel set to be deployed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s August 15 address.
The multi-layered security arrangement includes Delhi Police personnel from the Traffic Unit, North District, local police, PCR, Special Branch and Special Cell, along with paramilitary forces, commandos and NSG teams. Snipers and specialised ‘hit teams’ will also be stationed at strategic locations, while an NDRF force and Quick Reaction Teams will remain ready to respond to emergencies.

More than 1,000 CCTV cameras have been installed around the Red Fort and adjoining areas. Police will use facial recognition, number plate recognition and intrusion detection systems to monitor the venue. Body-worn cameras and anti-drone systems will also form part of the security network.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police and the National Security Guard conducted a major counter-terrorism exercise across the capital on August 7-8. The exercise simulated multiple threats, including blasts, firing, hostage situations, an aircraft hijacking and CBRNE attacks, at several prominent locations.
Officials said security briefings and training sessions have been completed and preparations are on track.
