US President Donald Trump has said he would seek compensation from Iran as part of any future peace negotiations, citing what he described as decades of attacks and atrocities allegedly backed or carried out by the Islamic Republic.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump responded to suggestions that Iran could seek compensation for the damage it suffered during the past five months of war. He said he found the idea “interesting” and indicated that the United States would make its own compensation demands in return.

Trump said Iran’s demand for compensation had never been raised during negotiations with the United States.
The US president also referred to the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, a US Navy guided-missile destroyer that was attacked while docked at a port in Yemen. The bombing killed 17 American sailors and injured more than 30 others.
Trump cited the attack while arguing that Iran should also be held financially accountable for past incidents. However, the FBI has attributed the USS Cole bombing to al-Qaeda.
Trump’s remarks come amid discussions over the possibility of future peace negotiations involving Iran and the United States, with compensation emerging as a potential issue in any talks.
