The Mamlatdar’s office complex at Canacona, which houses various government departments, is facing parking space constraints, primarily due to the rise in number of vehicle owners visiting the offices and also due to haphazard and senseless parking.
The general public visiting various government departments are forced to park their vehicles on either side of national Highway near the Complex, thereby putting the commuters’ lives at risk.
The lone complex, built in 1991, had the offices of Mamlatdar, Sub Treasury, Water Supply, Roads, Excise, Sub Registrar and Zonal Agriculture.
However, over a period of time, the election office and deputy collector’s office and some more offices were shifted here. The parking space provided in front of the complex was designed taking into consideration the number of vehicle owners at that time.
Now, with the increase in the number of vehicles, the area allotted for parking seems insufficient and has forced those visiting the government offices to park their vehicles on either side of the NH.
When contacted, the Canacona Deputy Collector Kedar Naik said he was aware of the parking limitations faced by those visiting the government offices and said that he had instructed his officials to seek the services of the home guards or traffic personnel to streamline the parking in the area.
