PANJIM: The Opposition Congress Party on Friday alleged that the BJP government had stooped to a new low by encouraging a no-confidence motion against a democratically elected chairperson of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) and on the other side displays its greed for power by delaying convening a meeting by 43 days to discuss no-confidence motion against Sanquelim Municipal Council Chairperson Yeshwant Madkar.
The BJP government must learn from the teachings of responsibility and sacrifice from Ramayana, stated Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Kamat said that the BJP government always boasts of “Ram Rajya” in governance. However, the current situation in the State has converted the administration into “Ravan Rajya” with the government in power using all unethical, illegal and undemocratic means to either stick to power or grab power.
In Ramayana, Lord Ram obeyed the orders of his parents and went for 14 years of exile (vanvaas). At the same time, his brother Bharat refused to occupy the position of the King and placed the sacred Padukas of Lord Ram on the Sihasana while taking care of his Kingdom.
In democracy, people’s verdict is equivalent to parents orders. This teachings from Ramayana need to be followed by each one of us, said Kamat.
It is unfortunate that the BJP in Goa is obsessed with power and are using all sorts of means to grab the same. The tall claims of the BJP of winning in five out of six municipal councils fell flat on Thursday after the election results of Curchorem-Cacora and Canacona were declared. The BJP is now desperately trying to find some excuse as a face saving exercise, stated Kamat.
According to Kamat, it is sad that the democratic values are bulldozed in Sanquelim and Curchorem, which are represented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral. How can a no-confidence motion be moved even before the names of the persons elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson are notified by the Directorate of Municipal Administration. How can there be 43 days’ time delay to discuss on no-confidence motion at Sanquelim? he questioned..
Surprisingly, the super-fast speed applied in bringing no-confidence motion against democratically elected Curchorem-Cacora Chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar is not applied to discuss on the no-confidence motion against Sanquelim Municipal Council Chairperson Yeshwant Madkar. The selective, partisan and biased approach of the BJP administration stands completely exposed, stated Kamat.
