VASCO: District Court South Goa disqualified Councillor of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Tukaram alias Rajesh K Redkar for holding office of profit.
It may be recalled that Sanjay Mandrekar and Redkar had contested Mormugao Municipal Council election from Ward 5 on October 30, 2010. Redkar won the election with 618 votes, while Mandrekar polled 430 votes.
Mandrekar filed a disqualification petition in the District Court South Goa on November 11, 2010, against Redkar for holding office of profit at the time of filing of nomination papers.
The District Court after hearing the case, which almost took four years, disqualified Redkar on November 21 under Section 16 (1) (i) of the Goa Municipal Act 1968 for holding the office of profit.
When contacted, Redkar stated that he will appeal against the order in the High Court.
