PANJIM: The wait for the one-man commission appointed for the looking into the land grabbing cases in Goa continues as the office allotted for the Commission is still not ready. Retired Justice V K Jadhav was supposed to assume office on January 16. The one-man commission which was announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the month of August has taken almost four months to start its probe.
The Under Secretary Home II Vivek Naik had confirmed that the staff and amenities for the commission to start its work have been allotted. However, the work of creating the office space for the commissioner continues even as he arrived in Goa on January 16.
Herald is informed that commissioner Justice Jadhav has taken a stock of the readiness of the office on Tuesday.
The Superintendent of Police who is the head of SIT on Land grabbing Nidhin Valsan has said that the chargesheet in the land grabbing of the ancestral land of Goan-origin UK home secretary Suella Braverman’s case may be filed soon. “The chargesheets in other offenses of land grabbing will be filed subsequently as there is a lot of documentation and investigation that needs to be done to get to the root of the cases,” he added.
“The Commission will be recommending changes to the systems pertaining to the land ownership and sale. The loophole found in the Archives Department which was used to grab land is one of the other deficiencies and lacunas that the commission will look into,” he added.
The Commission will have to inquire and fix the responsibility in all the cases of land grabbing involving private land and any other land in the State, and to find out the involvement of government officers and any other public functionaries and private individuals in such land grabbing.
The Commission will also inquire and find out the loopholes, deficiencies, lacunas, and negligence in the administrative system and legal framework that led to large-scale land grabbing.
The Commission will recommend to the government the steps, measures, and actions to change the administrative system and legal framework for the purpose of avoiding cases of land grabbing in the future and also necessary changes to be made in law for preventing such cases in the future.
But that is when it starts functioning. The venerable Retd Judge awaits his room and office, as the land-grabbing case investigations wait for him.
