PANJIM: Panjim Municipal Market Tenants Association (PMMTA) has objected to non-traditional stalls at Ashtami Fair 2024.
In a representation submitted to Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate, PMMTA General Secretary Gregory Fernandes has said that they have received complaints about non-traditional stalls being allowed during the Janmashtami fair which goes upto Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

They argued that such stalls negatively affect their business and threatened to retaliate if those stalls are set up. “We strongly object to such stalls as the fair is located very close to our market and our business is affected as we depend on the festival season. We have no objection for traditional fair given at the time of Janmasthi festival which is on August 26 and therefore we propose that CCP should give permission not extending till the Ganesh Chaturthi festival i.e. from August 24 to September 2,” he said.
Fernandes pointed out that the Association had met market Chairman Bento Lorena to register its objections in 2022 and Bento had assured that from 2023 CCP will not allow non-traditional stalls during the Ashtami fair and will restrict the fair duration for only one week as it was earlier before 2015.
