VASCO: A shed for dumping garbage waste, which is located right in the neighbourhood of the Airport Authority of India-Dabolim office has become a hotbed for the stray dogs, birds and cattle. A visit to this facility on Friday revealed that the garbage comprised various waste items including plastic bottles and leftover food items, fruits, and other perishable eatables.
The stench from the garbage shed and availability of food waste at this site has been cited as the reason why the number of stray dogs and other stray animals has increased in the area near the airport. A labour worker who was seen arranging big plastic bags filled with garbage, said that they collect garbage waste from the airport regularly and that it is later sent ‘outside’ for disposal. Although he claimed that the gate of the shed remains closed, there is a gap that leaves enough space for dogs, rats, cats to smoothly sneak in and feast on the residual food at the site.
