Building statues

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a very important leader of our nation. He contributed immensely to the Indian freedom struggle and his role after the Independence was also of much importance. Honouring a freedom fighter is justifiable, but building expensive statues using Indian public taxes displays backward mindset. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel once said, ‘ My only desire is that no one should be hungry, shedding tears for food in the country’. This great man’s vision was to build an India without poverty and not an India where thousands of crores are wasted on building statues. If half a billion dollars are wisely used to help the needy people then thousands of people could had better standard of living. Common citizens of India are starving for food, medicines and their daily needs, if this thousands of crores are spent on them then it would be better. If government really wanted to honour Sardar Patel they should have done something affordable and reasonable.
