MARGAO: V M Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE), Manora, Raia hosted a team of 12 students along with a trainer from 12 different hospitality schools operated and managed by Turismo de Portugal. The Chairman of Salgaocar Group Dattaraj Salgaocar, Principal of VMSIIHE and others welcomed the group.
The month long student specialised training programme aims at promoting professional knowledge and cultural integration in the field of Hospitality and Tourism both in Portugal and India.
Professor Irfan Mina, Director of V M Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education led the efforts in forging collaboration between the two nations.
The knowledge exchange programme between the two countries will see a collaborative effort in the fields of research, trainings, teaching learning methods and other aspects in the near future.
The MoU focuses on a shared vision, to encourage and develop the training and qualification of human resource personnel working in the field of tourism, to coordinate and execute professional training for students and faculty.
The students and their teachers from Portugal arrived in Goa on Friday. The team at VMSIIHE accorded them a grand welcome. A detailed plan has been chalked out for the students to offer them the best of culinary experience combined with field trips in order to give them a taste of Goan culture, hospitality and places of interest.
The Dattaraj Salgaocar interacted with the visiting students and Prof Irfan welcomed.
The students will go through various classroom sessions spread over a period of around four weeks. Teaching sessions on Indian snacks and tea, Goan sweets, gravies, tandoor regional cuisines like Kashmiri, Goan, Rajasthani, Awadhi, Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Goan Saraswat, Kerala, Parsi, Hyderabadi, Portuguese etc, showmanship and a session on Irish Coffee making will give an opportunity to the students to exhibit their culinary skills.
The students will be visiting churches and temples in Goa, world famous beaches in Goa and will also get an opportunity to watch the carnival float parade. A cruise trip is also planned.
Karaoke, cultural program by VMSIIHE students and barbecue by the poolside are some of the other activities planned so that the students interact with each other.
The students will return home on March 4, 2018.
