“What are the 108 ambulance workers demanding? Only better service conditions. But they are being blamed for deflating the ambulance tyres and stuffing sugar in the diesel tank. Goans will not resort to this act. It is the company itself in connivance with the government,” Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco argued, while speaking during the budget session.
The Agassaim police, on Sunday, registered a case against ‘suspected workers’ for deflating tyres of the ambulances, damaging the diesel tanks, tearing off seats and stealing equipments from the vehicle taking cognizance of a complaint filed by EMRI.
“Government should interfere and play the role of counsellor to solve the issues,” he said.
The legislator also pointed out that with the continuing strike of the ambulance workers for over a month, emergency help has come to a standstill. “We call the 108 helpline but the call attendants tell us that their workers are on strike. The emergency help has come to a grinding halt,” said another. Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai further pointed out that due to the absence of ambulances in Margao, two lives were lost.
