MARGAO: Margao police rushed to Pajifond on Thursday evening to prevent a clash between rival groups of youth behind some multi-storey buildings near the BPS club.
Police inspector Sudesh Naik led a police team to the spot as residents complained of nuisance created by the miscreants, disturbing peace and tranquility in the locality.
The residents have demanded police action against the miscreants hailing from other parts of the city, including Housing Board. They have called upon the police to ascertain whether any kiosk or shop is dealing with matka gambling and sale of liquor, which draws the youth to the locality.
When contacted, PI Sudesh said that the police had over a month ago cracked a whip against some miscreants playing card gambling. “The police will ascertain whether any kiosk or shop is selling liquor or accepting matka bets,” PI Sudesh added. Local residents claimed that peace and tranquility in the area are often disturbed due to fights amongst miscreants and have called for a stop to the anti-social activity in the residential locality.
