vasco: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Goa President Jose Philip D’Souza has chosen to end the controversy surrounding the ‘courtesy meeting’ between Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and NCP MLA Churchill MLA and Colva ZP winner Vania Baptista on Monday, after the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) results were announced.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, D’Souza stated that the right courtesy would have been if Churchill had to inform him about that meeting, pointing out that it was the MLA’s duty to do so as he is the party chief.
He added that as president, it is his duty to keep NCP high command and national leaders like Praful Patel and Sharad Pawar updated about these developments.
Reiterating that Churchill had failed to inform him, he also said the Benaulim MLA should not have attacked his own party president before the media. This was in response to the media briefing held by Churchill on Wednesday where he challenged D’Souza to remove him as MLA if he had done anything wrong by meeting the CM.
“Now that I have forwarded the message to the party high command, I will go ahead with the instructions coming from the high command, but the question of expelling Churchill Alemao from the NCP party or taking any action does not arise. But we will work together to grow our party in Goa,” D’Souza added.
